Stay Healthy With Quinoa

quinoaIf you are health conscious you should try adding quinoa to your diet. It is a little seed that is packed with vitamins and nutrients as well as a complete protein profile. With this food item on your menu you don’t have to worry about getting all the nutrients that your body requires.

If you aren’t good around the kitchen then that is not a problem. Quinoa is simple to prepare and it can be used in a number of ways. So you can cook one large batch and use it in a number of quick and easy to prepare recipes to last you for the entire week. If you have a food steamer then your task will be even easier since your quinoa can be cooked with just the push of a button.

No matter how you cook your quinoa, one thing you must do before you subject it to any heat is to soak and rinse it. You can soak it overnight for best results then rinse it under running water, preferably warm until the water that comes from the seeds is clear and without a soapy residue. When cooking your quinoa you don’t have to use plain water, you can use broth or even apple juice depending on what the final product will be used for.

If you don’t have a steamer and don’t have the time or the patience to cook the quinoa on the stove you can also cook it in a rice cooker. This like the rice cooker doesn’t require much attention from you and you can leave it to do other things that are more pressing. The great thing with this is that it will keep the quinoa warm while the pot is still plugged in.

If you would like your quinoa to have a crunchy texture then you can toast them in the oven first. Preheat your oven to 375°F and place the quinoa on a sheet pan. Separate them so they are not too close together and that they are evenly distributed over the sheet. If you have some organic olive oil you can toss them in a little before placing them on the sheet. Place this in the oven for around 18 minutes or until they are golden in color. This will give you a nicely toasted seed. After removing you can add whatever seasonings you would like for your taste preferences.
